Ordering Ears

I am almost ready for another opening but first I want to let you know what I am considering and get your feedback.

For the past few months, we have used Instagram to claim spots for openings. I have posted the opening graphic and taken the first 20 or 30 comments. However, we are starting to see issues arise week by week. Many of you have reported seeing comments in a different order than I do and have sent me screen shots to prove it. I have looked from my personal account and on my computer and have determined that the results are just not consistent enough to be fair. Comments are appearing out of order and some of your comments are not appearing at all on my end.

The thing I like about Instagram is that it is quick to get a spot but then you get to take your time deciding what you want and completing the sale. Up until recently it was easy to tell right away if you had a spot just by counting comments. I am sorry that has changed, and I am not super confident in the consistency of this method any longer.

And to be honest, this method is a lot of work for me and you. I have to send you a form to fill out which design you want and all your info, keep track of who has filled it out on time, alert the next in line if need be, make spreadsheets, send invoices, cancel invoices when they are not paid in time and then alert the next in line. Some openings are smoother than others, but it can take up to 3 days to have all my orders finalized for each opening. That is up to 3 days that I cannot begin working on orders. It literally takes me all day to compile a list of emails and start sending links to the form page. But, I do all this work because it made things easier for those of you who got listings.

I don’t want people to be discouraged because they think they will never be able to get ears but it’s honestly gotten to the point where your chances on Instagram are just the same as your chances on the website and the website is easier for us all. I realize I am where I am now because of you and I do want you to know that your orders matter so I want to hear from you.

Bottom line is, neither method is perfect but I do not feel right about KNOWING FOR A FACT that Instagram comments are coming out of order and some not appearing at all.

I know the website is frustrating for some because it makes it impossible to get a visual of what is going on “behind the scenes” so-to-speak and with Instagram you have a visual of where your comment is. But the thing I have realized is that it is kind of the same with Instagram. If 60 people are all trying to leave a comment at the same time, it is virtually impossible to know what order the comments are going to come in. So in a way, it can be just as frustrating as the website.

I am leaning towards going back to shop openings being on the website. This will mean that the ordering process will be more cut and dry for everyone, and I can get started right away on orders and eliminate that lag time – essentially meaning that I will be able to take more orders, complete orders more efficiently, and hopefully open more often. These openings will probably alternate between ready-to-ship and made-to-order.

I would also go back to having intermittent reserved listing drawings. All you have to do to enter is comment “I want ears” on the reserved listing post on Instagram and your name will be entered into the drawing. If you are chosen, you will get a reserved listing for whatever you want.

    Sounds good to me….I’m just not sure how the website works….When the shop opens, I guess it will direct me on what to do on the website?!
